Accuracy, guessing, and marking decisions
Review the decision behind the answer.
Read the actual rules
Marking can differ across papers and question types. Read the current paper instructions rather than assuming the same penalty or partial-credit scheme applies everywhere.
Review uncertainty
Separate answers supported by a method from unsupported guesses. Also inspect preventable calculation and reading errors; treating every error as guessing hides useful detail.
Example
If you eliminated options using a valid condition, review that reasoning. If the answer was unsupported, examine why you chose to attempt it under the applicable marking scheme.
Keep a useful checking step
A practical unit, sign, or condition check may catch some mistakes. Choose checks that fit the question rather than extending every solution indefinitely.
- Read the marking rules.
- Inspect the reason for an attempt.
- Choose a practical check.
